This major transport project is part of the Roads of National Significance programme

WSP Opus is or has been involved in aspects of each of these roads, with significant input into a number of them.

The Christchurch Roads of National Significance project comprise the Western Corridor, the Northern Arterial, QEII Drive and the Southern Motorway.

Western Belfast Bypass

We were involved with the design and MSQA for a four-lane expressway. We worked with NZTA to reduce risk and enhance environmental outcomes. The solutions were a win-win for landowners, ECan, Christchurch City Council and Fish & Game. The design is expected to becompleted in December 2013.

Russley / Memorial Interchange

We completed Investigation & Reporting for this interchange at Christchurch Airport, including short term solutions like adding signals to the existing roundabout.

Northern Arterial And Qeii Four-Laning

We completed Investigation & Reporting in 2012 and prepared the application for the Notice of Requirements. Intersections along QEII Drive were evaluated against a number of criteria and we delivered a robust assessment. We were appointed by the Council to the investigation and reporting phase for the Northern Arterial Extension, and won the specimen design phase in early 2013.

Christchurch Southern Motorway

For the Southern Motorway we completed the investigation and reporting phase, specimen design and were principal advisor MSQA for stage 1. The specimen design, assessment of environmental effects and statutory applications were lodged within a 10 month period, highlighting our ability to deliver in a short timeframe. Our construction management ensures the project remains on time and issues actively addressed.
