We led a multi-disciplinary design team to complete this 7,485 sqm policing centre
The project won a Govt3 award in 2007, which recognises excellence in sustainable design to improve environmental and economic outcomes.
A key driver for the project was to create a flexible, modern and future proofed facility for NZ Police. We engaged in a strategic briefing process to establish the strategic goals for the project.
This resulted in a wish-list of things such as:
- Flexible open plan workspaces
- Shared ‘breakout spaces'
- Formal and informal meeting zones such as the cafeteria
- Invited and private work zones (defined by surface material changes)
- Sophisticated AV systems that allow multiple activities to occur simultaneously
In the design stages of the project, the Opus team carried out detailed studies of circulation flows to gain economies in floor area utilisation. There was a strong emphasis on flexibility to accommodate future expansion.
